Memory MCP server
by doobidoo
Your AI remembers past chats and notes, and finds them again when you ask.

This is a memory helper for your AI. Normally your AI forgets everything when you close the chat or start a new one. With this connected, it keeps your notes, decisions and facts in one place on your own computer, and looks them up again when you need them.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you in the moment. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something outside the chat. This one is a memory service: it runs quietly on your computer and stores what you tell it, so your AI can save things and search them later. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the remembering in the background.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI something worth keeping, like a project decision or a fact about your work. Your AI passes that to this helper, which saves it on your computer. Later, when you ask a question, your AI asks the helper to search for related notes, and the helper finds the closest matches. Your AI then reads those notes back to you and answers using them. Over time it can also tidy up old notes and group related ones together.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save notes, decisions and facts so they survive across chats
- Search your saved notes by meaning, not just exact words
- Look up notes by tag or label
- See your memories in a web dashboard on your own computer
- Group related notes and spot patterns across them
- Keep everything local so your notes do not go to a cloud service
Try asking your AI
- “Remember that we chose the blue theme for the client project and why”
- “What did we decide last week about the reporting deadline?”
- “Search my notes for anything about the onboarding checklist”
- “Show me all memories tagged with the marketing project”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat, written by your AI using your saved notes. It can also show lists of matching memories, short summaries, or groups of related notes. In the web dashboard you can browse, search and manage everything yourself. When it saves something, you usually just see a short confirmation.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- The pip install command run once to add the memory service
- Your AI app set up to use MCP servers, such as the Claude desktop app
Good to know
It stores your notes on your computer and can also delete or change them, so keep backups of anything important and do not open the server to your whole network unless you trust everyone on it.
Install it with your AI
Add Memory MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Memory MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who uses an AI chat often and is tired of re-explaining the same project, decisions or background every time.
