Fast Filesystem MCP server
by efforthye
Let your AI read, write, search and organize files on your computer, even very large ones.

This is a small helper that gives your AI assistant hands-on access to the files on your computer. It can open files, save changes, search through folders and tidy things up, and it is built to handle big files without choking. It is handy for anyone who works with lots of documents, notes or code and wishes the AI could just look at the actual files instead of you copying and pasting everything.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your files or change anything on your machine. An MCP server is a little helper program you connect to your AI, and it gives the AI one new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to your computer's files and folders, so when you ask it to read, search or edit something, it can actually go and do it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your files, like read this document or find that note. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper then talks to your computer's file system, opening the folder or file you mentioned. It reads, writes, searches or organizes as needed, and sends the result back. Your AI then shows you the answer or confirms the change in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Read a file and summarize what is inside
- Write or update a file for you
- Search folders for files by name or by content
- List what is in a folder, even a big one
- Copy, move, rename or delete files and folders
- Zip files into an archive or unpack one
- Edit specific lines in a text or code file
- Check how much disk space is being used
Try asking your AI
- “Read my notes.txt file and give me a short summary”
- “Find every file in my Projects folder that mentions the word budget”
- “Create a folder called Reports and move all the PDF files there”
- “In my script.js file, replace every console.log with logger.info”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat: a summary of a file, a list of matching files, or a confirmation that something was changed, copied or deleted. For big folders or files it can page through results so you are not flooded. When it edits a file it can also tell you it made a backup first.
