ForgeMesh Library MCP server

by forgemeshlabs

Lets your AI search real public-domain books and pull cited passages, chapters and quotes on demand.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find passages about loneliness in Frankenstein”, the ForgeMesh Library MCP server connects it to ForgeMesh Library, and you get back real passages from real books.

This is a helper that connects your AI to a large library of public-domain books, from Moby-Dick to Pride and Prejudice. You can ask it to find passages, look up a book's details, or pull a whole chapter. It is handy if you write lessons, run a book club, or just want real quotes instead of made-up ones.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to the ForgeMesh Library, a big collection of public-domain books. Once it is set up, your AI can look things up in those books and bring real passages back to you when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like find a passage about the sea in Moby-Dick. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to the ForgeMesh Library service over the internet, which searches its index of real book text. The service sends back the matching passages, and your AI shows them to you in the chat. Every answer is a real passage pulled from a real book, not something the AI made up.

What you can do with it

  • Search the whole book collection for a word or phrase and get real passages
  • Look up a book by title or author to find the right one
  • Get the details of a book: title, author, year, subjects and chapter range
  • Read the full text of one chapter
  • Pull notable quotes from a book, optionally on a theme
  • Ask a well-known book a question and get cited passages back
  • Browse curated shelves like gothic horror or Russian literature

Try asking your AI

  • “Find passages about loneliness in Frankenstein”
  • “What does Moby-Dick say about the color white?”
  • “Show me a few famous quotes from Pride and Prejudice”
  • “Give me the first chapter of The Time Machine”
  • “What books are on the detective fiction shelf?”

What it gives back to you

You get back real text from real books, usually as a list of passages with the book title and where they came from. For metadata you get a short fact sheet about the book. For a chapter you get the full chapter text. Everything appears right in your chat, ready to read or copy.

Before you start

What you need

  • An MCP client like Claude Desktop or Claude Code
  • Node.js installed on your computer so npx works
  • A small Base wallet with a little USDC in it, used only for this service
  • The private key for that wallet, kept in a safe place

Good to know

Each lookup costs a small amount of real money in USDC from the wallet you connect, so keep that wallet low-balance and check the prices before heavy use.
