ntfy notification MCP server
by gitmotion
Lets your AI send real-time notifications to your phone or desktop through ntfy, and fetch past messages from your topics.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to ntfy, a free service for sending push notifications to your phone or computer. Once it is set up, your AI can ping you when a long task finishes, when something goes wrong, or when it needs your attention. It is handy if you run tasks in the background and do not want to sit and watch them.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you in the window. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one extra skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to ntfy, so it can send notifications to your devices and read back messages from your ntfy topics. You still just talk to your AI in plain words, and the helper does the behind-the-scenes work.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to notify you about something, for example when a task is done. Your AI passes that request to this helper. The helper sends the message to ntfy, using the topic and server you set up. ntfy then pushes the notification to your phone or desktop through the ntfy app. You can also ask your AI to fetch recent messages from a topic, and it will read them back to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Send a notification to your phone when a task finishes
- Send an alert with a title, priority level, and emoji tags
- Send a message that includes a clickable link
- Fetch recent messages from one of your ntfy topics
- Filter fetched messages by time or other options
- Use a self-hosted ntfy server instead of the public one
- Send notifications to a protected topic using an access token
Try asking your AI
- “Send me a notification when this finishes, with the title Report ready”
- “Notify me on ntfy with high priority that the data check failed”
- “Fetch the last 10 messages from my alerts topic”
- “Send a notification to my work topic saying the upload is complete, and include the link”
What it gives back to you
When it sends a notification, you get a short confirmation in the chat that the message went out, and the notification itself appears on your device. When it fetches messages, you get a list of the recent messages from that topic, shown as text in the chat. You can then ask your AI to summarize them or pick out the important ones.
Before you start
What you need
- The ntfy app installed on your phone or computer
- An ntfy topic name that you choose and subscribe to in the app
- Node.js installed if you use the npx setup (or Docker if you prefer that)
- An ntfy access token only if your topic is protected or you use a private server
Good to know
Notifications go out to whatever topic you set, so anyone who knows that topic name on a public ntfy server could read them, and keep your access token private.
Install it with your AI
Add ntfy notification MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check ntfy notification MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who runs tasks in the background and wants a ping on their phone when something finishes or goes wrong, especially people who already use ntfy.
