GuruPDF MCP is a small helper you add to your AI assistant so it can work with your files: turning a Word document into a PDF, squeezing a big PDF down in size, or joining several PDFs into one. It is handy for anyone who deals with documents all day and is tired of hunting for online converters.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to GuruPDF, a file conversion service. So when you ask your AI to turn a document into a PDF, it can actually do it for you instead of just explaining how.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI what you want in normal words, like compress this PDF or turn this Word file into a PDF. Your AI passes the request to this helper, which sends your file to GuruPDF's servers to be converted. When it comes back, the helper saves the finished file on your computer. Then your AI tells you where the new file is. You never have to upload or download anything by hand.

What it gives back to you

You get back a short answer in the chat telling you what was done and where the new file was saved on your computer. For long jobs, like video conversion, it can give you a job id and check on it later. If something goes wrong, or you are out of credits, it tells you that too.

What you need

Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
A free GuruPDF account
A GuruPDF API token from your Profile page (a kind of password for apps)
The Claude desktop app, Cursor, VS Code or Windsurf

Good to know

Each conversion uses credits from your GuruPDF account, and free accounts have a daily limit, so heavy use may run out until the next day.
