This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your Google Workspace account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain English to make a slide deck, tidy up a spreadsheet, or find a file in Drive, and it will actually do it. It is handy for anyone who lives in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides all day and wants to skip the clicking.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your files or change anything in your Google account. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and this one gives it a connection to Google Workspace. So when you ask your AI to build a presentation or update a sheet, the helper is what actually talks to Google and carries out the work for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like make me a slide deck from these notes. Your AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer or a server. The helper logs into your Google account and uses Google's own tools to create or edit the file. Then it sends the result back, so your AI can tell you what it did and give you a link. It covers Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Chat, Tasks, Contacts and more.

What you can do with it

  • Create and edit Google Slides, including shapes, text boxes, speaker notes and slide order
  • Turn plain markdown text into a properly formatted Google Doc
  • Add and check data validation rules, named ranges and protected ranges in Sheets
  • Copy a whole Drive folder, including everything inside it
  • Look up and restore earlier versions of a file
  • Find and replace text inside a document
  • Manage Gmail, Calendar events, Tasks and Contacts

Try asking your AI

  • “Make a Google Slides deck from these bullet points and add speaker notes to each slide”
  • “Turn this markdown into a Google Doc with real headings and a numbered list”
  • “Copy my Project folder in Drive and rename the copy Project 2025”
  • “Add a dropdown validation rule to column C in my budget sheet”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat, like a short summary of what was created or changed, plus links to the files. For searches it gives you lists of matching files, emails or events. For edits it tells you what it changed, such as which slides were added or which cells were updated. You can then open the file in Google to see the result yourself.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Google account (a free Gmail account works, and paid Workspace plans work too)
  • A Google Cloud project with OAuth credentials set up (Google walks you through creating these, and they act like a password for the app)
  • Python and the uv tool installed on the machine that runs the helper
  • An AI app that supports MCP servers, such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code

Good to know

This helper can change and delete real things in your Google account, so check what your AI is about to do before you say yes, especially for deleting files or overwriting documents.
