InfluxDB MCP server
by influxdata · official
Ask your AI to explore, query, and manage your InfluxDB 3 databases in plain language.

This is a helper made by InfluxData, the company behind InfluxDB. It lets your AI assistant talk to your InfluxDB 3 database so you can ask questions about your data and get answers without writing queries yourself. It is handy if you keep time-based data like sensor readings, app metrics, or server logs in InfluxDB.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to InfluxDB 3, so when you ask a question, the AI can look things up or make changes in your database for you. You just talk normally, and the helper does the technical part in the background.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your InfluxDB data, like which sensors were hottest today. The AI uses this helper to send a query to your InfluxDB 3 instance. The helper runs the query and sends the results back to the AI. The AI then explains the answer to you in plain words, often with a table or a short summary. If you allow it, the helper can also create databases, write data, or manage tokens.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List all databases in your InfluxDB instance
- Show the tables and columns inside a database
- Run read-only SQL or InfluxQL queries and get results
- Write new data using line protocol
- Create, update, or delete databases
- Create and manage admin or resource tokens
- Check the health and connection status of your instance
Try asking your AI
- “Which sensors had the highest average temperature in the last 24 hours?”
- “List all databases I can access.”
- “Show me the schema for the cpu measurement.”
- “Why did this dashboard panel stop showing data after the deploy?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a short explanation plus a table of rows or a list of names. For queries, it also tells you how many rows came back and whether the results were cut short. For changes like creating a database, it confirms what it did. Everything stays in the conversation so you can ask follow-up questions.
Before you start
What you need
- An InfluxDB 3 instance (Core, Enterprise, Cloud Dedicated, Clustered, or Cloud Serverless)
- The URL of your instance and a token (a kind of password for apps)
- Node.js v20.11 or newer and npm v9 or newer if you run it with npm
- Docker if you prefer the Docker setup
Good to know
Some tools can change or delete data and tokens, and deleting a database or regenerating an operator token cannot be undone, so use the readonly profile when you only need to look.
Install it with your AI
Add InfluxDB MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check InfluxDB MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who works with time-based data in InfluxDB and wants to explore or manage it without writing queries by hand, like analysts, operators, and developers.
