Data Visualization MCP server
Lets your AI turn tables of numbers into charts using Vega-Lite, and show them as pictures or chart code.

This is a small helper that lets your AI make charts from data you give it. You hand it a table of numbers, describe the chart you want, and it builds the chart for you. It is handy for anyone who has data in a chat and wants a quick picture of it without opening a spreadsheet tool.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one gives your AI the skill of drawing charts with a chart language called Vega-Lite. So when you ask for a chart, your AI uses this helper behind the scenes to build it and hand the result back to you.
What this MCP server does
You give your AI a table of data, like sales per month, and ask it to save that table. The AI passes the table to this helper, which stores it under a name you choose. Then you ask for a chart, for example a bar chart of sales per month. The AI writes a chart description in Vega-Lite, sends it to the helper along with the table name, and the helper builds the chart. Depending on how it was set up, you get back either a picture of the chart or the full chart description you can reuse elsewhere.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save a table of data in the helper so it can be charted later
- Turn a saved table into a bar, line, scatter, or other chart
- Get the chart back as a picture right in the chat
- Get the chart back as Vega-Lite text you can copy or tweak
- Reuse the same saved table for several different charts
- Ask for charts of grouped or summarized numbers
Try asking your AI
- “Save this table of monthly sales under the name sales_2024”
- “Make a bar chart of sales_2024 with month on the x axis and revenue on the y axis”
- “Show sales_2024 as a line chart over time”
- “Give me a scatter plot of sales_2024 comparing units sold and revenue”
What it gives back to you
When it is set up to give pictures, you get an image of the chart directly in the chat, which you can look at and save. When it is set up to give text, you get a short success message plus the full Vega-Lite description of the chart, including the data, which you can copy into another tool. Saving a table just returns a short confirmation that it worked.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
- A local copy of this server on your computer
- The uv tool installed, which the setup uses to run the server
Good to know
The charts are only as good as the data you give it, so double check the numbers before you trust a picture.
Install it with your AI
Add Data Visualization MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Data Visualization MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
