Contentful MCP server
by ivo-toby
Lets your AI create, edit, publish and delete content, assets and content types in your Contentful space.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Contentful, the system many teams use to store and publish website and app content. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to find, write, change or publish things in Contentful instead of clicking through the web interface yourself. It is handy for content editors, marketers and anyone who manages a lot of pages or articles.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program you add to your AI app that gives it one new skill. This helper gives your AI a connection to your Contentful space, so it can look things up and make changes there when you ask. You stay in control: the AI only does something in Contentful when you tell it to.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in your AI app, for example to find all blog posts about a topic. Your AI sends that request to this helper, and the helper talks to Contentful on your behalf. Contentful sends back the matching entries, and your AI shows them to you in the chat. If you ask for a change, like updating a title or publishing an entry, the helper makes that change in Contentful and tells you it is done. For big jobs, it can publish or unpublish many items at once and report back how it went.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search your Contentful entries and show you the matches
- Create new entries and fill in their fields
- Update the text or fields of an existing entry
- Publish or unpublish entries and assets
- Upload new assets like images and attach metadata
- List and manage your content types
- Add comments to entries, including replies in a thread
- Publish or unpublish many items in one go
Try asking your AI
- “Find the last 3 blog posts in Contentful and show me their titles”
- “Create a new entry of type 'Article' with the title 'Spring update' and save it as a draft”
- “Update the summary field of the entry called 'About us' and publish it”
- “List my content types so I can see what fields a 'Product' has”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of entries or assets with their key fields, details of a single item, or a short confirmation that a change was made. When you search, it shows a few results at a time and tells you how many more are available, so you can ask for the next page. Bulk jobs come back with counts of what succeeded and what failed. Validation runs give you a list of problems found, without changing anything.
Before you start
What you need
- A Contentful account
- A Content Management API token from your Contentful settings (a kind of password for apps)
- The Claude desktop app or another app that can use MCP servers
- Node.js installed on your computer (the setup uses npx)
Good to know
This helper can change, publish and delete real content in your Contentful space, so be clear about what you ask it to do and check before letting it remove anything.
Install it with your AI
Add Contentful MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Contentful MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Content editors, marketers, product managers and developers who manage a Contentful space and want to do everyday content work by asking their AI instead of clicking around.
