memo MCP server

Give your AI a private, searchable memory so it remembers your decisions and notes between chats.

memo is a memory helper that runs on your own computer. It saves things you tell your AI, like decisions or facts about your work, and lets the AI look them up later. It is handy if you use Claude Code, Cursor, or another coding assistant and you are tired of repeating yourself every session.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what is in front of it. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to memo, a memory store on your machine. Once connected, the AI can save new memories and search old ones when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI something worth remembering, like which database your team picked. The AI uses this helper to save it as a plain text note on your computer. Later, when you ask a question, the AI searches those notes by meaning, not just exact words. It can also notice when a new note contradicts an older one and flag it. You get the answer back in the chat, based on what you saved before.

What you can do with it

  • Save decisions, facts, and notes so your AI remembers them
  • Search your saved memories by meaning, not just keywords
  • Ask what you decided on a certain date in the past
  • Compare your notes between two dates to see what changed
  • Find and resolve notes that contradict each other
  • Keep your memories as plain Markdown files you can read and edit
  • Sync your memory between your own computers using git

Try asking your AI

  • “Save this: we use Postgres, not Mongo, for the new service.”
  • “What database did we pick last month?”
  • “What was our deploy strategy back in February?”
  • “Do any of my saved notes contradict each other?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain chat, drawn from your own saved notes. Searches come back as short lists of matching memories with their text. Some commands give you summaries, comparisons, or a list of conflicting facts. When you save something, you get a short confirmation that it was stored.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 to M4) for the full experience, or Linux or Docker for the CPU version
  • About 8 GB of free disk space for the models on first install
  • Python 3.13 or newer (the installer can set this up for you)
  • Optional: an Obsidian vault if you want to keep notes there

Good to know

It saves notes on your own machine, so treat anything you save as stored locally, and be careful if you point its git sync at a shared or public repository.

Install it with your AI

Add memo MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check memo MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
