Claudex MCP server
by kunwar-shah
Lets your AI remember coding notes and search your past Claude Code chats across sessions.

Claudex is a helper that gives your AI a memory for your coding work. It saves notes like your project rules, decisions, and past mistakes, and it can search through your old Claude Code conversations. It is handy if you use Claude Code a lot and keep repeating the same context.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you in the moment and forgets everything when the session ends. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something else. This one connects your AI to Claudex, which stores your coding knowledge and your past conversations. So when you ask about your project, your AI can look it up in Claudex and answer with what it finds.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your project, like what conventions you use or what you decided last week. Your AI passes that question to the Claudex helper. Claudex looks through its saved notes and your indexed Claude Code conversations. It sends back the matching notes, summaries, or conversation pieces. Your AI then explains the answer to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save coding notes like conventions, architecture choices, and decisions
- Recall your saved notes when you start a new session
- Search your past Claude Code conversations by keyword
- Pull up a specific past session and read what was said
- Get a short catch-up summary of what happened before
- Set a priority and confidence level on each saved note
- Let old notes expire automatically after a set time
Try asking your AI
- “What conventions did we agree on for this project?”
- “Search my past sessions for anything about the database migration”
- “Catch me up on what we did in this project last week”
- “Save a note that we use tabs, not spaces, in this repo”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat text, like a short summary or a list of matching notes. When it searches your history, it shows the matching conversation pieces with some context around them. Saved notes come back with their priority and confidence so you know how firm they are. Everything appears right in the chat, no extra windows to open.
Before you start
What you need
- Claude Code installed, with your past conversations in the usual place
- Node.js 18 or newer
- The Claudex package installed (npm install -g @kunwarshah/claudex)
Good to know
It reads your local Claude Code conversation history, so anything private you typed there could come back in the chat.
Install it with your AI
Add Claudex MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Claudex MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Developers and anyone who uses Claude Code daily and wants their AI to remember project details between sessions.
