Taprun is a helper that lets your AI learn how to do something on a website once, then repeat it later without thinking again. It works inside your own Chrome browser, so sites you are already logged into just work. It is handy if you often pull the same information or repeat the same clicks on a site that has no easy way to automate.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Taprun, which drives your real Chrome browser. So when you ask for something from a website, your AI can use Taprun to go look it up or do it for you.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI what you want from a website, in plain words. Your AI uses Taprun to look at the page once and write down a small set of steps, like a recipe. Taprun saves that recipe as a file. Later, when you ask again, Taprun just follows the saved steps in your browser, with no AI thinking involved. You get the same result each time, and it costs nothing extra in AI usage.

What you can do with it

  • Pull data from a website you are logged into, like a dashboard or a forum
  • Repeat the same website task later without paying for AI again
  • Check whether a website changed and your saved steps stopped working
  • Post or publish something on a site through your own browser session
  • Chain several website tasks together, like filtering and sorting results
  • Create a new saved task for any website by just describing what you want

Try asking your AI

  • “What's trending on GitHub today?”
  • “Capture a tap for the Douban top 250 movies”
  • “Run my saved tap for Hacker News front page”
  • “Check if my GitHub trending tap still works”

What it gives back to you

You get back an answer in the chat, usually a list or a short summary of what was found on the page. If you asked it to do something, like publish a post, it tells you whether that worked. It can also tell you when a website has changed and your saved steps no longer match. The results come as plain text you can read right away.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
  • Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs small tools)
  • The Taprun Chrome extension if you want to use sites you are logged into

Good to know

It can click and type on websites using your logged-in browser, so it could change or post things if you ask it to.
