Redfish BMC MCP server

by mirastacklabs-ai · official

Lets your AI check and manage server hardware (power, fans, firmware, BIOS) through Redfish BMCs, safely.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Is the main server powered on right now?”, the Redfish BMC MCP server connects it to Server management chip, and you get back plain answer in your chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI to the small management chips inside servers, called BMCs. Those chips control things like power, cooling, firmware and BIOS settings. It is handy for people who look after servers, like IT admins and support engineers, and it is built to be careful: it only reads by default and asks before it changes anything.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another system. This one connects your AI to Redfish BMCs, which are the management controllers inside servers from Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and others. Once it is connected, you can ask your AI about a server and it will go and look things up there for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question about a server, like whether it is powered on or how hot it is running. Your AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper then talks to the BMC over the Redfish standard, which is a common way to talk to server management chips. It brings the answer back and your AI explains it to you in the chat. If you want to change something, like reboot the server, the helper first shows you a dry run so you can confirm before anything actually happens.

What you can do with it

  • Check whether a server is powered on, off, or restarting
  • Read temperatures, fan speeds, and power usage
  • Look up firmware versions and BIOS settings
  • See hardware inventory like CPUs, memory, and drives
  • Review logs and health status of a server
  • Request a power action like reboot or shutdown, with a dry run first
  • Manage several servers at once by giving each one a name

Try asking your AI

  • “Is the server at idrac-prod powered on right now?”
  • “Show me the current temperatures and fan speeds on ilo-lab.”
  • “What firmware version is running on the main production server?”
  • “I want to reboot the lab server. Show me what would happen first, do not do it yet.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain chat: things like a power state, a list of temperatures, firmware versions, or a summary of hardware. When you ask for a change, you first get a dry run that says what would happen and what the next step is. Once you confirm, it tells you the action was applied. Everything stays in the conversation, so you can read it and decide what to do next.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python installed on the machine where you run it
  • The address of your BMC (for example https://192.0.2.10)
  • A BMC username and password (these are the login details for the server management chip, not your normal server login)
  • Optionally, a Docker setup if you want to try it without real hardware

Good to know

Even in read-only mode it can see sensitive server details, and if you turn on write mode it can power off servers, change BIOS settings, or update firmware, so keep write mode off unless you really need it and always read the dry run before confirming.

Install it with your AI

Add Redfish BMC MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Redfish BMC MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.

Who it's for

IT admins, data center engineers, and support teams who look after servers and want to check or manage them by just asking their AI.
