by n24q02m

Let your AI search the web, pull content from pages, and look up library documentation for you.

WET is a helper that gives your AI a set of web skills: searching the internet, reading pages, and looking up documentation for software libraries. It is handy if you often ask your AI things that need fresh information from the web or details from a project's docs. You do not need to be technical to use it once someone has set it up for you.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to the web, so it can search, read pages, and check documentation when you ask. Think of it as giving your assistant a browser and a research desk.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question that needs web information, like a recent news topic or a page you want summarized. Your AI sends that request to this helper. The helper runs a web search, opens the pages it finds, and pulls out the useful text. It can also look up documentation for a software library and index it so future questions are faster. Then your AI gives you back an answer with the sources it used.

What you can do with it

  • Search the web and get results with links and short snippets
  • Read a web page and turn it into clean text or markdown
  • Look up and index documentation for a software library
  • Search academic sources like Google Scholar, arXiv, and PubMed
  • Convert local files like PDF, DOCX, or XLSX into markdown
  • Crawl a website and map out its pages
  • Find and download images, videos, or audio files from a page

Try asking your AI

  • “Search the web for the latest news about electric car batteries and summarize the top results”
  • “Read this page and give me the main points as a bullet list: https://example.com/article”
  • “Look up the documentation for the Python requests library and tell me how to send a POST request”
  • “Find recent papers on arXiv about large language models and list the titles”

What it gives back to you

You get back answers in the chat, usually with a short summary and a list of sources with links. For page reading, you get clean text or markdown you can copy. For documentation lookups, you get the relevant sections and version details. If it downloads media, you get a list of files with links.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python and uv installed on your computer (the setup guide walks you through it)
  • An MCP client like Claude Code, Cursor, or another app that supports MCP servers
  • Optional: API keys for cloud search or embedding providers if you want higher quality results (the README explains which ones)

Good to know

It can read pages and files you point it at, so avoid sending it private or sensitive content unless you trust the setup.

Install it with your AI

Add WET Web Toolkit MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check WET Web Toolkit MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
