FableCut MCP server

by ronak-create

Lets your AI edit a browser video timeline for you: cut clips, add text, filters and transitions.

FableCut is a video editor that runs in your web browser, a bit like a simple version of Premiere. What makes it special is that the whole edit lives in one text file, so an AI helper can change it for you while you watch the timeline update. It is handy if you make short videos, reels or clips and want to describe the edit in words instead of dragging things around.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This helper connects your AI to FableCut, the browser video editor. So when you ask for a change, the AI can actually make it in your video project instead of just telling you how.

What this MCP server does

You run FableCut on your own computer and open it in your browser. You ask your AI something like add a title at the start or trim this clip. The AI uses this helper to write the change into the project file, which is the single document that describes your whole edit. FableCut notices the change and updates the timeline in your browser in a fraction of a second, so you see it happen. When you are happy, you export the finished video.

What you can do with it

  • Cut, trim, split and move clips on the timeline
  • Add titles and animated captions with different styles
  • Apply filter presets like cinematic, noir or vintage
  • Add transitions between clips, such as fades and wipes
  • Animate things like position, scale and speed over time
  • Import a video or audio file from a web link
  • Analyse a reference video to borrow its look

Try asking your AI

  • “Add a title that says Summer Trip at the start and fade it out after two seconds”
  • “Trim the first clip to five seconds and put a crossfade before the second clip”
  • “Give the whole video a cinematic teal and orange look”
  • “Add word-pop captions for the audio in the middle section”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat plus real changes in your FableCut project. The AI usually replies with a short note about what it changed, and the timeline in your browser updates right away so you can see it. If it looks up something, like the details of a clip or a reference video, it gives you a short summary. Nothing is exported until you ask for it.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs the editor)
  • The FableCut files from its GitHub page
  • An AI app that can use MCP servers, such as Claude Desktop or Claude Code

Good to know

It edits your real project file, so changes happen straight away, and it can move, trim or remove clips, so keep a backup of anything important.

Install it with your AI

Add FableCut MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check FableCut MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
