Waypath MCP server

by TheStack-ai

Give your AI a memory that lives on your own computer, so it remembers your project between chats.

Waypath is a memory tool for AI coding helpers. It keeps notes about your project in one file on your own computer, and your AI can look things up there instead of forgetting everything when a chat ends. It is handy if you work with an AI assistant on the same project over many days.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot remember yesterday, and it cannot look anything up outside the conversation. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill. This one connects your AI to Waypath, a memory store on your machine, so the AI can save notes and read them back when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your project. The AI uses this helper to search your Waypath memory file. Waypath looks through saved notes, decisions and connections between them, and picks out the parts that match. The AI then answers you using what it found. You can also ask the AI to save a new note, and later to review it before it becomes part of the official memory.

What you can do with it

  • Recall earlier decisions about your project
  • Save a new note about something you figured out
  • Mark a note as reviewed and official
  • See which notes are waiting for review
  • Explore how people, systems and decisions are connected
  • Check the health and size of your memory file
  • Look up the history of a topic over time

Try asking your AI

  • “What did we decide about the login flow last week?”
  • “Save a note that we switched to passkeys for sign-in.”
  • “Show me the notes that are waiting for review.”
  • “How is the payment service connected to the user account system?”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, written in normal sentences, based on what is stored in your memory file. When you ask for a review list, you get a short list of notes with their names. When you save something, the AI tells you it was saved. Nothing is sent anywhere else, because everything stays in the file on your computer.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js version 22 or newer installed on your computer
  • A terminal where you can type commands
  • An AI app that can use MCP servers, such as Claude Code or Codex

Good to know

It can change or remove notes in your memory file, so it is worth keeping a backup of that file if the notes matter to you.

Install it with your AI

Add Waypath MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Waypath MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
