ArtifactSmith MCP server
by vrijsinghani
Turn your AI's work into a private web page, PDF, Word doc or spreadsheet you can share with a link.
ArtifactSmith is a helper program that you run yourself on your own computer or server. It lets your AI assistant turn its answer into a real document: a web page, a PDF, a Word file, a spreadsheet or a Markdown file. It is handy if you already use an AI assistant and want the result as something you can keep, style and share, instead of just text in a chat window.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another tool. This one gives your AI the skill of making documents: you ask for something, the AI writes the content, and ArtifactSmith turns it into a page, PDF, Word file or spreadsheet. The document stays private until you decide to share it with a link.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI for a document, for example a short brief or a checklist. The AI passes your request to ArtifactSmith, together with any background text you provide. ArtifactSmith sends the writing job to an AI model you configure, then uses a fixed renderer to turn the result into a web page, PDF, Word file, spreadsheet or Markdown file. You get a private preview first, so you can look before anyone else does. When you are happy, you ask for a share link, and you can revoke that link later if you change your mind.
What you can do with it
- Turn a chat answer into a styled web page
- Export the same content as a PDF, Word document, Excel spreadsheet or Markdown file
- Pick a visual style such as house, bold, editorial, playful, terminal or swiss
- Edit a document after it is made and keep its previous versions
- Preview a document privately before sharing it
- Create a public link for one exact version of a document
- Revoke a shared link so it stops working
Try asking your AI
- “Create a one-page brief called Pilot store brief. Use this as source: The pilot store code is HARBOR-17. It is the identifier used on inventory, support, and rollout reports.”
- “Make a PDF checklist for the new starter process, in the editorial style.”
- “Export the last document as a Word file.”
- “Share the latest version of the pilot store brief and give me the link.”
What it gives back to you
Mostly you get back a document and a private preview link in the chat. Depending on what you asked for, the result can be a web page, a PDF, a Word file, an Excel spreadsheet or a Markdown file. When you share it, you get a public URL for that one version. If you revoke the share, the link stops working.
Before you start
What you need
- Docker Engine with the Compose plugin, if you run it yourself
- A model key from an OpenAI-compatible service, or a local model endpoint, only if you want the AI to write new pages
- A token from the ArtifactSmith command line, which you paste into your AI app's config
Good to know
It can create and share documents, so check what is inside a document before you share the link, and remember that a shared link can be turned off later if you need to.
Install it with your AI
Add ArtifactSmith MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check ArtifactSmith MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who already run their own AI assistants and want a private, self-hosted way to turn answers into shareable documents.
