Wundervault MCP server
by wundervault
Let your AI use stored API keys and passwords inside commands without ever seeing the actual secret.

Wundervault is a place where you keep secrets like API keys, passwords and SSH keys locked away. This little connector lets your AI assistant use those secrets to run tasks for you while keeping the real values hidden from the chat. It is handy if you want automation but feel uneasy pasting sensitive passwords straight into an AI conversation.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only talk. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new ability, in this case a safe link to your Wundervault storage. When you ask your AI to do something that needs a secret, say restart a web server, the AI sends the work order to this helper. The helper gets the secret behind the scenes, hands it to the task, and tells your AI only "done", never the secret itself.
What this MCP server does
First you tell your AI what job should happen, such as deploying code or connecting to another machine. Your AI passes that instruction to this helper along with the ID of the right secret. The helper checks whether the request looks safe, fetches the secret from your Vundervault setup, and puts it quietly into the background of the command. Then the command runs, its screen output is cleaned of any trace of the secret, and you simply hear back that it worked plus whatever normal result came out. Everything stays logged too, so you know which secret was used and why.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Run a command with a saved API key added automatically
- Restart services or scripts using a stored admin password
- Connect to a remote computer over SSH without saving the key anywhere permanent
- Copy a folder to a remote server using a key kept safely in the vault
- Drop a secret straight into a settings file like .env or ~/.npmrc
- See a tidy list of which secrets exist and how restricted they are
Try asking your AI
- “Use my staging database password to run tonight's backup script”
- “Deploy the website update to the production server with the usual login details”
- “Upload the reports folder to our backup server”
- “Show me which secrets I currently have stored”
What it gives back to you
Mostly you get simple confirmations in the chat, like "secret retrieved" or "reference removed," because the whole point is that the secret value stays invisible. You also get lists showing each secret's name and ID together with its restriction level. If a command produced normal output, that comes back too, already stripped of anything sensitive. Nothing shows the raw password or key.
Before you start
What you need
- A Wundervault account
- The Node.js runtime installed on your computer
- The wundervault-agent companion program running nearby
- Your chosen agent name ready to fill into the configuration
Good to know
Because this helper genuinely performs actions like changing servers or writing documents, review carefully what you approve each time since mistakes take effect instantly though always within limits you configured.
Install it with your AI
Add Wundervault MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Wundervault MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who wants to automate routine IT chores with an AI assistant but refuses to let passwords sit around in chats or files.
