tela is a wiki for teams, where every page is written in plain Markdown. It comes with a built-in helper that lets your AI assistant look things up in the wiki and add new pages for you. It is handy if your team keeps notes, docs, or how-to guides in one place and you want your AI to work with that same knowledge.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app, here to your tela wiki. Once connected, your AI can search your wiki, read pages, and write new ones when you ask. You do not need to copy and paste anything between the wiki and the chat.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your team's docs, like a policy or a process. The AI uses this helper to search your tela wiki. The helper talks to your wiki and finds the pages that match. The AI reads them and gives you an answer or a summary in the chat. If you ask it to, it can also create or update a page in the wiki for you.

What you can do with it

  • Search your team wiki for a topic or keyword
  • Read a specific wiki page and summarize it
  • Write a new wiki page from notes you give it
  • Update an existing page with new information
  • Find pages that mention a certain person or project
  • Pull together an answer from several wiki pages at once

Try asking your AI

  • “Search our wiki for the onboarding checklist and show me the steps”
  • “What does our wiki say about the holiday policy?”
  • “Create a new wiki page called Meeting notes for the March planning session and add what I paste next”
  • “Find every page that mentions the Atlas project and give me a short summary of each”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, usually as a short summary with the page names it came from. If it searched, you will see a list of matching pages. If it wrote or updated a page, it tells you the page name and what it changed. You can then open the wiki to see the page in full.

Before you start

What you need

  • A tela wiki, either the free cloud version at telawiki.com or one your team runs itself
  • A personal access token from tela (a kind of password for apps, created in your tela account settings)
  • The web address of your tela wiki

Good to know

Your AI can create and change pages in your wiki, so check what it wrote before sharing it with your team.

Install it with your AI

Add tela MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check tela MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
