Media MCP server
by Adityaaery20
Let your AI resize, convert, compress, crop, and inspect images and videos on your computer.

This is a small helper that gives your AI assistant the ability to work with image and video files on your own computer. You ask in plain words, and it does the resizing, converting, compressing, cropping, and checking for you. It is handy for anyone who deals with pictures or clips at work but does not want to open a photo editor every time.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to something. This one connects your AI to the image and video files on your machine, so it can look at them and change them when you ask. You do not need an account or a password for it, it just runs quietly in the background.
What this MCP server does
You tell your AI what you want done with a picture or a video, like resize this or convert that. The AI passes your request to this helper program, which uses well known image and video tools behind the scenes. The helper opens the file, makes the change, and saves the result. Then it tells the AI what happened, and the AI tells you in the chat. For video tasks it also needs a free tool called ffmpeg installed on your computer.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Resize an image to a set width, height, or scale
- Convert images between PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, and AVIF
- Compress an image to make the file smaller
- Crop an image to exact pixel coordinates
- Create thumbnails at a size you choose
- Strip hidden metadata from a photo for privacy
- Rotate, flip, or apply filters like blur and grayscale
- Check the details of a video and pull out frames
Try asking your AI
- “Resize screenshot.png to 800 pixels wide”
- “Convert all the PNGs in this folder to WebP”
- “Strip the EXIF data from photo.jpg for privacy”
- “Compress this image to under 500KB”
- “Extract a frame every 5 seconds from demo.mp4”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like the width, height, format, and file size of an image, or the duration and resolution of a video. When it changes a file, it saves the new version and tells you where it went. For video frame extraction, you get the saved frame files. It also reports things like the new file size after compressing.
Before you start
What you need
- The uvx tool installed (a small helper that runs Python programs; the setup guide shows how)
- ffmpeg installed if you want to work with videos (a free video tool, available from ffmpeg.org)
- An MCP-compatible app like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, or Windsurf
Good to know
It changes files on your computer, so keep a copy of anything important before asking it to edit or overwrite.
Install it with your AI
Add Media MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Media MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who handles images or videos at work, like marketers, designers, support staff, and developers who want quick edits without opening a photo editor.
