BeatDesign is a free, open-source workspace that runs on your own computer for making images and videos with AI. It has a canvas where you lay out ideas and a video editor where you cut them into a finished clip. This page is about the part that lets your AI assistant work inside that same workspace.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to BeatDesign running on your own machine, so it can open your projects, add clips to a timeline, place overlays, and adjust subtitles. You ask in normal words, and the AI does the clicking for you.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI what you want done in your BeatDesign project. The AI uses this helper to talk to BeatDesign on your computer. BeatDesign then carries out the steps, like adding clips to a timeline or placing a logo overlay. When it is done, the changes show up in the BeatDesign window you have open in your browser. You can watch it happen and keep editing by hand afterwards.

What you can do with it

  • Open one of your BeatDesign projects by name
  • Add video or image clips to a timeline
  • Place a logo or image overlay on top of your video
  • Adjust or style the subtitles on a clip
  • Look through the assets stored in your project
  • Generate new images or videos from a prompt
  • Render your timeline into an MP4 file

Try asking your AI

  • “Open my latest BeatDesign project and show me what is in it”
  • “Add these three clips to a timeline in order and trim the first one”
  • “Put my logo in the bottom right corner for the whole video”
  • “Fix the subtitles on this clip and leave the editor open so I can check”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat, like a list of your projects or a short note saying what changed. When it edits your timeline, the result appears in the BeatDesign editor in your browser, not as text. If you ask it to render, it can produce an MP4 file you can play. Everything stays on your own computer.

Before you start

What you need

  • BeatDesign installed and running on your computer
  • Node.js 22 or newer and pnpm 10 or newer
  • A current Chrome browser
  • A BeatAPI key only if you want to generate or analyze media (the site gives you one)

Good to know

It can change or delete things in your BeatDesign projects, and generating media uses your BeatAPI key, which may cost money.

Install it with your AI
