File Merger MCP server
by exoticknight
Lets your AI combine several files into one, so long documents fit inside chat limits.

This is a small helper that joins several files into a single file. It is handy when you have a pile of notes, logs, or text files and your AI chat keeps saying the content is too long to handle at once. You tell your AI which files to combine, and it does the joining for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot reach into your computer and open files. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill. This one gives it the skill of merging files together, so when you ask, your AI can combine the files you name into one file and tell you where it saved it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to combine some files. Your AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper checks that the files are inside the folders you allowed, reads them, and writes them into one new file in the order you gave. Then it reports back the file sizes and a short summary of what it merged, and your AI shows that to you in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Combine several text files into one file
- Join a set of notes or logs so they fit in a single chat message
- Choose the exact order the files are joined in
- Pick where the combined file is saved
- See the size of each file and a summary of the merge
- Check which folders the helper is allowed to touch
Try asking your AI
- “Merge these three files into one called all-notes.txt: notes1.txt, notes2.txt, notes3.txt”
- “Combine all the .md files in my project folder into a single file I can paste into our chat”
- “Join report-a.txt and report-b.txt into combined-report.txt and tell me how big the result is”
- “Which folders are you allowed to read files from?”
What it gives back to you
You get a short success message in the chat with the details of the merge. It lists the files that went in, their sizes, and where the combined file was saved. If you ask which folders are allowed, it gives you that list. The actual combined file sits on your computer at the path you chose.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app (or another AI app that supports MCP servers)
- Node.js installed on your computer
- The folder path you want to allow the helper to read from and write to
Good to know
It can read files in the folders you allow and create or overwrite a file at the output path you give, so be careful not to point the output at a file you want to keep.
Install it with your AI
