Web Search MCP server

by HughesCuit

Lets your AI search the web and read pages for you, with no API key or sign-up needed.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Search the web for the latest news about electric cars”, the Web Search MCP server connects it to Web Search, and you get back A list of results.

This is a small helper that gives your AI the ability to search the web. You install it once, and after that you can just ask your AI to look something up online. It is handy for anyone who wants fresh information without copying links back and forth.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat using what it already learned. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to a service. This one connects your AI to web search engines like DuckDuckGo, Bing and Google. So when you ask a question, your AI can actually go look it up instead of guessing.

What this MCP server does

You type a question in your AI chat, like you normally would. Your AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper searches the web using DuckDuckGo, Bing or Google and collects the top results. It also caches recent searches so repeat questions come back faster. Then your AI reads those results and writes you a normal answer in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search the web for current news, facts or prices
  • Compare results from DuckDuckGo, Bing and Google at once
  • Read the text of a webpage you point it to
  • Look up things in other languages
  • Get a short list of links with titles and snippets
  • Ask follow-up questions without searching again from scratch

Try asking your AI

  • “Search the web for the latest news about electric cars in Europe”
  • “Find three recent articles about remote work productivity and summarize them”
  • “What does this page say: paste a URL here”
  • “Look up the current opening hours for the British Museum”

What it gives back to you

You get back a short list of results, each with a title, a link and a snippet of text. If you asked it to read a page, you get the readable text of that page. Your AI then turns all of this into a normal chat answer, often with the links included. Nothing is changed anywhere, it only reads.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python 3.10 or newer (the free programming tool this runs on)
  • An MCP-compatible AI app like Claude Desktop or Cursor
  • Optional: a SerpAPI key or Tavily key if you want extra search quality (both offer free monthly searches)

Good to know

It only reads from the web, so it cannot change or delete anything, but search results and page text come from outside sources and can be wrong or outdated, so double-check anything important.

Install it with your AI

Add Web Search MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Web Search MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
