US Legal MCP server

by JamesANZ

Ask your AI about US bills, regulations and court cases and get real answers from official sources.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “What immigration bills came up in Congress?”, the US Legal MCP server reaches Congress bills, Federal Register, Court rulings, Committees and Regulator news, and you get back A tidy list in your chat.

This is a small connector that lets your AI assistant look up United States legal information for you. It pulls from places like Congress.gov, the Federal Register and CourtListener. It is handy if you work near policy, compliance or research and don't want to hunt through government websites yourself.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only talk based on what it already learned during training. An MCP server is a little helper program that hands your AI a brand new ability. This particular helper connects your AI to several official US legal databases. So instead of guessing, your AI goes off, checks those sources, and comes back with actual current records.

What this MCP server does

Once it is running alongside your AI, you just describe what you're looking for in normal words. Your AI sends that question to this helper, and the helper queries the right government database behind the scenes. The matching items come straight back into your chat window. You never touch a website form or download a raw document unless you want to. Everything stays inside the conversation where you asked.

What you can do with it

  • Look up bills currently moving through Congress
  • Read recently introduced federal legislation
  • Check newly published rules and executive orders
  • Pull up past court rulings on a subject
  • See committee names and members in Congress
  • Get the latest press releases from financial regulators

Try asking your AI

  • “What immigration bills came up in the last session of Congress?”
  • “Show me recent environmental regulation updates from the Federal Register.”
  • “Are there Supreme Court cases mentioning asylum claims?”
  • “Give me the newest announcements from the SEC.”

What it gives back to you

Depending on what you ask, you'll usually get a tidy list in the chat: titles, dates, sponsors or agencies, plus clickable links to the original record. For some questions you also receive longer passages pulled directly from the document itself. When relevance checking is turned on, each result may carry a confidence number next to it. Either way, everything arrives formatted enough that you can skim rather than wade.

Good to know

Nothing gets altered or removed because this thing only fetches publicly available material, though remember unofficial copies might lag slightly behind printed editions.
