Shipmail is a business email service that gives you mailboxes on your own domain, and this is its official helper for AI assistants. Once connected, your AI can look through your Shipmail inbox, read threads, draft replies, and send messages for you. It is handy if you run a small business, handle support, or want an assistant that manages a shared mailbox like support@yourcompany.com.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Shipmail, your business email provider. So when you ask about a message or want a reply written, the AI can actually look in your Shipmail mailboxes and act there for you.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your email, like checking a thread or drafting a reply. The AI uses this helper, which talks to Shipmail on your behalf. Shipmail sends back the messages, threads, or mailbox details you asked about. The AI then shows you a summary or a draft in the chat, and can send it if you approve. You can also set up rules so incoming mail triggers automatic actions.

What you can do with it

  • List and read messages in a Shipmail mailbox
  • Draft a reply to an email thread for your review
  • Send a message from your custom-domain address
  • Inspect a full conversation thread with all its replies
  • Check and manage your mailboxes and domains
  • Set up webhooks so new mail triggers an action
  • Manage suppression lists to block unwanted addresses

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain chat: lists of messages with sender, subject, and a short preview, or a full thread laid out in order. When you ask for a draft, the AI writes the text right in the conversation so you can edit it. If it sends or changes something, it tells you what it did. Nothing is sent or changed without your approval in the default setup.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Shipmail account with a mailbox on your domain
  • A Shipmail API key (a kind of password for apps; Shipmail gives you one in your account settings)
  • An AI app that supports MCP, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, or Windsurf
  • Node.js 20 or newer, only if you run the server on your own computer instead of the hosted one

Good to know

It can send email and change things in your account, so check drafts and approvals carefully before letting it act.
