Keenable is a helper that gives your AI two new skills: searching the live web and reading a web page for you. It comes from the company behind the Keenable web index, so it is an official connection, not a homemade one. It is handy for anyone who asks their AI about current things and keeps getting old or made-up answers.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one extra skill, like a new app on your phone. This one connects your AI to Keenable's web index, so it can search the web and open pages when you ask. You do not install anything complicated: it lives online at a web address, and your AI talks to it there.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question that needs fresh information, like what happened today or what a certain page says. Your AI passes your request to Keenable, which searches its web index and hands back matching pages. If you want the actual content, your AI asks Keenable to open one of those pages and Keenable returns the page as clean text, without menus, ads or clutter. Your AI then reads that text and answers you in the chat. You never leave the conversation.

What you can do with it

  • Search the live web for pages matching a topic
  • Limit a search to one website
  • Filter results by when a page was published or found
  • Fetch a web page and get it back as clean text
  • Cap how much of a long page is returned
  • Ask follow-up questions about a page your AI just read

Try asking your AI

  • “Search the web for the latest news about electric car prices in Europe”
  • “Find pages on bbc.com about the new train line”
  • “Open this page and summarise it for me: https://example.com/article”
  • “Look for articles published in the last week about remote work rules”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in your normal chat window. For a search, your AI usually shows a short list of matching pages with their titles and links, plus a summary. For a page fetch, you get the page's main text, trimmed to a readable length, and your AI can then summarise it or pull out the parts you care about. Nothing is changed on the web: Keenable only reads.

Before you start

What you need

  • An AI app that supports MCP servers, such as Cursor, Cline, VS Code or Claude Desktop
  • An internet connection
  • Optional: a Keenable API key if you want a higher hourly limit (the free keyless level allows 1,000 requests per hour)

Good to know

It only reads the web, so it cannot change or delete anything, but search results and page text come from outside sources and can be wrong, so check important facts yourself.

Install it with your AI
