Lets your AI search the web, pull clean text from pages, and rescue broken links for you.

Argus is a helper that gives your AI a real web search skill. Instead of guessing, your AI can look things up across many search engines, open pages, and bring back the useful text. It is handy if you often ask your AI about things that need fresh or specific sources.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Argus, which is a search and page-reading tool. Once connected, your AI can ask Argus to search the web or fetch a page, and then answer you using what it found.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question that needs web information. Your AI sends that request to Argus through this helper. Argus searches across several search engines, picks the best results, and opens the pages to grab the main text. It then hands that text back to your AI. Your AI uses it to write you an answer, often with links to where the information came from.

What you can do with it

  • Search the web across many engines at once
  • Pull clean readable text from a web page
  • Recover an old or broken link using archives
  • Capture the important pages from a documentation site
  • Build a small local pack of docs and research notes
  • Keep track of how much search budget each provider has used

Try asking your AI

  • “Search the web for the latest Python web frameworks and summarize the top results”
  • “Fetch the text of this article and tell me the main points: https://example.com/article”
  • “This link is dead, can you find an archived copy: https://example.com/old-post”
  • “Capture the important pages from https://docs.example.com and give me a short summary”

What it gives back to you

You get back a written answer from your AI, based on real web pages. Argus itself returns lists of search results, the cleaned text of pages, and short reports with links. In the chat, this usually looks like a summary with a few source links you can click.

Before you start

What you need

  • Python 3.11 or newer on your computer
  • The argus-search package installed (pip install argus-search)
  • The MCP extra installed for AI clients (pipx install argus-search[mcp])
  • An AI client that supports MCP, like Claude Code, Cursor, or VS Code

Good to know

It reads web pages and can save files on your computer, so be careful about which URLs and sites you point it at.

Install it with your AI

Add Argus MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Argus MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
