Tavily Search MCP server
by kshern
Let your AI search the web and read pages for you through Tavily.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Tavily, a search service made for AI tools. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to look things up online or pull the text out of a web page, and it will go and do that for you. It is handy for anyone who wants fresh answers and sources without leaving the chat.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Tavily, a search and page-reading service. So when you ask a question that needs current information, your AI can reach out to Tavily and bring the results back into the conversation.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in plain words, like asking about a topic or a news story. Your AI passes that request to this helper, which sends it to Tavily. Tavily searches the web and sends back a list of results, each with a title, a short piece of content, and a link. If you ask it to read a page, it fetches the text from that link and hands it back. Your AI then shows you the answer or the list right in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the web for a topic and get titles, snippets, and links
- Focus a search on news, general topics, or finance
- Limit results to a recent time range, like the past week
- Ask a question and get a short answer plus sources
- Include or exclude specific websites from the search
- Pull the full text out of one or more web pages
Try asking your AI
- “Search the web for the latest news about electric cars this week”
- “What is quantum computing? Give me a short answer and a few sources”
- “Find recent articles about interest rates, only from news sites”
- “Read this page and summarize it for me: https://example.com/article1”
What it gives back to you
You get back a short list of results, each with a title, a snippet of text, and a link. If you asked a question, you may also get a short written answer. If you asked it to read pages, you get the text from those pages, plus a note if any links could not be read. All of this appears as normal text in your chat.
