Scribefy MCP server
by MKirovBG · official
Let your AI pull YouTube transcripts, search videos, and check video details for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Scribefy, a service that reads YouTube videos and hands back their text. Once it is set up, you can paste a YouTube link into your chat and ask for the transcript, or ask your AI to search YouTube and check a video before you spend anything. It is handy for anyone who watches, summarizes, or researches YouTube videos for work.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. It cannot open YouTube or read a video. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and this one connects your AI to Scribefy, which reads YouTube videos. So when you ask about a video, your AI quietly asks Scribefy through this helper and brings the answer back into your chat.
What this MCP server does
You paste a YouTube link or ask a question about a video. Your AI sends that request to this helper, which talks to Scribefy's service. Scribefy fetches the video's transcript, metadata, search results, or related videos, depending on what you asked. The helper hands the result back to your AI, which shows it to you in the chat as a clean list or a transcript with timestamps. You never leave the chat or open a separate tab.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Get the full transcript of a YouTube video with timestamps
- Search YouTube by keyword and see titles, channels, and view counts
- Check a video's title, channel, length, upload date, and caption languages before extracting
- See what YouTube suggests as related videos for a link
- Ask for a transcript in a specific language, like Spanish or French
- Summarize a long video by having your AI read the transcript
- Cite specific moments in a video using the timestamps
Try asking your AI
- “Here is a YouTube link. Give me the transcript with timestamps.”
- “Search YouTube for beginner Excel tutorials and show me the top 5.”
- “What is this video about? Check the details first, then tell me if it is worth transcribing.”
- “Summarize this video and point me to the parts where they talk about pricing.”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain text in your chat. A transcript comes as a Markdown block with the title, channel, duration, language, and the text split into timestamped segments. Searches and related-video requests come back as a list of titles, channels, durations, view counts, and links. Metadata comes back as a short summary plus every caption track available for that video.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 20 or newer on your computer
- A Scribefy account on the API + MCP plan (about $25 per month)
- An API key from your Scribefy dashboard (a kind of password for apps; the site gives you one)
- An MCP-compatible app like Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Windsurf
Good to know
Extracting a transcript uses Scribefy credits, which cost money, so check the video's details with the free tools first if you are unsure.
Install it with your AI
