ntfy MCP server
by ni-c
Send push notifications to your phone through ntfy and update them while a job runs.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to ntfy, a free service that sends push notifications to your phone. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI to notify you when something is done, and the message shows up on your device. It is handy for anyone who runs long tasks and wants to know when they finish without staring at the screen.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to ntfy, so it can send notifications, look up messages that were sent, and even edit a notification while a job is still running. You do not need to understand how it works inside; you just add it once and then talk to your AI like usual.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to send you a notification, and it uses this helper to talk to your ntfy server. The helper sends the message to ntfy, and ntfy pushes it to your phone or computer. If you want, your AI can also read back messages that were sent to a topic, so you can check what happened. While a long job is running, your AI can update the same notification instead of sending a new one each time. If you have an admin account, it can also create user accounts and manage who can access which topics.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Send a push notification to your phone
- Update a notification in place while a job runs
- Read back messages sent to a topic
- Check whether your credentials can read a topic
- Mark notifications as read on your devices
- Create and manage user accounts (admin only)
- Grant or revoke access to topics (admin only)
Try asking your AI
- “Notify me when the build finishes”
- “Send a push to my phone saying the backup is done”
- “Change that notification to say the deployment succeeded”
- “Show me the last five messages on the alerts topic”
What it gives back to you
When you ask for messages, you get a list with titles, topics, and a cursor to fetch the next batch. When you send or update a notification, you get back a confirmation with the message ID. Admin actions return the result of the change, like a new user account or updated access. Everything appears in the chat as text, and some clients also show it as structured data.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 22 or newer
- A reachable ntfy server (you can use ntfy.sh or your own)
- Optional: an access token or username/password if your ntfy server requires login
Good to know
By default this server can send and change notifications, so a typo in your settings could let it publish to topics you did not intend; use NTFY_TOPICS to limit which topics it can touch.
Install it with your AI
Add ntfy MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check ntfy MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who runs long tasks and wants a simple way to get notified on their phone, especially developers, system admins, and people who automate things.
