by nicholasbester

Lets your AI read and update your ClickUp tasks, lists, comments, and time entries for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your ClickUp account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like what tasks are due or to add a comment, and it will go and do that in ClickUp for you. It is handy for anyone who lives in ClickUp all day and wants to skip the clicking around.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app, and here that app is ClickUp. When you ask a question, your AI passes it to this helper, the helper talks to ClickUp, and the answer comes back into your chat. You do not need to understand how it works inside; you just need to connect it once.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your ClickUp work, like which tasks are still open or what is on your list this week. Your AI uses this helper to send that request to ClickUp. ClickUp sends back the details, and the helper tidies them into a short, readable answer instead of a giant wall of text. You then see the result right in your chat, and if you asked for a change, like a new comment or a status update, the helper makes that change in ClickUp too.

What you can do with it

  • List the tasks in a ClickUp list, folder, or space
  • Search for tasks by status or by the person they are assigned to
  • Create a new task with a name and priority
  • Update a task's status or move it somewhere else
  • Add a comment to a task or reply to an existing comment
  • Start and stop time tracking on a task
  • List your goals, views, tags, and custom fields

What it gives back to you

You get back short, tidy answers in your chat: lists of tasks with just the key details, a single task's information, or a confirmation that something was created or changed. It keeps things compact on purpose, so you see what matters instead of a huge block of raw data. If you want the full detail, you can ask for it and it will give you more.

Before you start

What you need

  • A ClickUp account
  • A ClickUp API token (a kind of password for apps; ClickUp gives you one in your settings)
  • Your ClickUp workspace ID (a number that identifies your workspace)
  • The ClickUp helper program installed on your computer, or the Claude desktop app if you use the hosted setup

Good to know

It can change or delete things in your ClickUp account, like tasks and comments, so be careful with requests that ask it to remove or overwrite your work.
