Local RAG web search MCP server
by nkapila6
Lets your AI search the web and read pages for you, all on your own computer with no API keys.

This is a small helper that gives your AI the ability to search the web and read the pages it finds. It runs on your own computer, so you do not need any accounts, passwords, or paid services. It is handy for anyone who wants their AI to answer questions about recent news or topics the AI was not trained on.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to web search engines like DuckDuckGo and Google. When you ask a question, the AI uses this helper to search the web and read the results for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question that needs fresh information from the web. The AI sends your question to this helper program running on your computer. The helper searches one or more search engines, collects the top results, and reads the pages behind them. It picks the parts that best match your question and hands them back to the AI. The AI then writes an answer for you using that fresh information.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search the web for recent news or facts your AI does not know
- Run a deep research pass across several search engines at once
- Compare what different search engines say about the same topic
- Do a private search using DuckDuckGo or Brave instead of Google
- Pull the text of a web page into your chat as readable notes
- Look up a topic on Wikipedia and other reference sites
Try asking your AI
- “Search the web for the latest news about electric car batteries this week”
- “Do deep research on recent quantum computing developments”
- “Find technical documentation about Kubernetes performance tuning”
- “Search multiple sources for sustainable energy solutions”
What it gives back to you
You get a written answer in your chat, built from pages the helper just read. Behind the scenes it also gathered a list of search results and the text of the most relevant pages. You usually see the answer itself, sometimes with links to the sources. You do not have to read the raw pages yourself.
Before you start

Good to know
It searches the public web, so results can be wrong, outdated, or from unreliable sites, and you should double-check anything important before acting on it.
