ODBC database MCP server
Lets your AI look inside almost any database your computer can connect to, and run queries for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to a database on your computer or network, using a standard called ODBC. ODBC is a common way for programs to talk to many different databases, so this one helper can reach lots of them. It is handy if you work with data in a database and want to ask questions in plain English instead of writing SQL yourself.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another app. This one connects your AI to a database through ODBC, so it can look at tables and run queries for you when you ask. You set it up once, and after that your AI can reach that database whenever you need it.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your data, like which tables exist or what is in a certain table. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper talks to the database through ODBC using the connection details you set up. The database sends back the rows or details, and the helper hands them to your AI. Your AI then shows you the answer in the chat, often as a table or a short summary.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List the schemas and tables in your database
- Describe the columns and types of a table
- Find tables whose names contain a word you choose
- Run a SQL query and get the rows back
- Get query results as a neat Markdown table
- Run SPARQL or SPASQL queries on Virtuoso databases
Try asking your AI
- “What tables are in my database?”
- “Show me the columns of the customers table.”
- “Find all tables with the word order in the name.”
- “Run this query and show me the results as a table: SELECT * FROM orders LIMIT 10”
What it gives back to you
It gives back lists of schemas and tables, descriptions of table columns, and the actual rows from your queries. Results can come as plain text, as a Markdown table you can read easily, or as one line per row. In the chat, you usually see a small table or a list, and your AI can summarize it for you.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js version 21.1.0 or newer
- A database you can reach, with its ODBC driver installed
- A Data Source Name (DSN) set up on your computer for that database
- The username and password for the database
Good to know
This helper can run any SQL query you or your AI write, including ones that change or delete data, so be careful with what you ask it to run.
Install it with your AI
Add ODBC database MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check ODBC database MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who work with databases and want to ask questions in plain English, like analysts, support staff, and anyone who needs quick answers from data without writing SQL by hand.
