Wolfram Alpha MCP server
by ricocf
Lets your AI look up facts, do math, and answer science and data questions through Wolfram Alpha.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Wolfram Alpha, the question-answering engine behind wolframalpha.com. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like math problems, unit conversions, or science facts, and it will fetch the answer from Wolfram Alpha instead of guessing. It is handy for anyone who wants reliable numbers and facts in their chat.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Wolfram Alpha, so when you ask a question that needs real computation or lookup, the AI can send it there and bring the answer back to you. You do not need to understand how it works under the hood. You just ask, and the helper does the fetching.
What this MCP server does
You type a question in your chat, like a math problem or a fact you want checked. Your AI notices the question needs Wolfram Alpha, so it passes it to this helper program. The helper talks to the Wolfram Alpha service using your personal key, and Wolfram Alpha computes or looks up the answer. The helper sends the result back to your AI, and your AI shows it to you in the chat as a clear answer, often with numbers or short facts.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Solve math problems step by step
- Convert units like miles to kilometers or cups to liters
- Look up science facts such as chemical properties or planet data
- Check dates, time zones, and calendar calculations
- Get quick statistics and numeric answers
- Ask about physical constants and formulas
Try asking your AI
- “What is 15 percent of 240?”
- “Convert 12 kilometers to miles”
- “What is the boiling point of water at 2000 meters altitude?”
- “How many days between March 3 and July 19?”
What it gives back to you
You get back a short answer in your chat, usually a number, a converted value, or a plain sentence with the fact you asked for. Sometimes it comes with a brief explanation or the steps used. It does not change anything on your computer or in your accounts. It only gives you information.
Before you start
What you need
- A Wolfram Alpha account with an AppID (a free key from the Wolfram Alpha developer site)
- Python installed on your computer
- The files from the project's GitHub page
Good to know
Wolfram Alpha may limit how many questions you can ask per month on the free plan, so heavy use could hit a cap.
Install it with your AI
Add Wolfram Alpha MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Wolfram Alpha MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Students, teachers, analysts, and anyone who wants quick, reliable math or science answers inside their AI chat.
