Your Mail MCP server
by wildsurfer
Lets your AI search your own email history across accounts, read-only, so it can find details you forgot.

This is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to your own email, so you can ask it questions like "what was the hotel wifi password" and get a real answer. It copies your mail into a private index on your own computer and lets the AI search that. It is handy if you have years of email and you are tired of scrolling through it yourself.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, in this case the ability to search your email. You run this helper on your own machine, it quietly mirrors your mail accounts into a local index, and when you ask a question your AI asks the helper, which looks it up and hands back the answer. The helper can only read, so nothing gets sent, deleted or moved.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your mail, in normal words. Your AI sends that question to this helper running on your computer. The helper searches its local copy of your email, across all the accounts you set up, and finds the matching messages. It sends back short summaries, or the full text of a message, or a list of what matched. Your AI then reads that and answers you in the chat, with the details you were looking for.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Find a booking reference, gate code or confirmation number buried in old mail
- Summarize everything that arrived overnight across all your accounts
- Pull one whole email thread together and see who promised what
- Search by sender, subject, date range or folder across every account at once
- Read the plain text of a message, even if it was sent as HTML
- Open an attachment, like an invoice or a PDF, from a specific message
- Check how far the first sync has got and whether any account has errors
Try asking your AI
- “Find the booking reference for the June ferry.”
- “What was the wifi password the hotel sent last summer?”
- “Collect everything between me and the builder about the roof, in order, and summarize who promised what.”
- “What arrived this morning across all my accounts that actually needs me?”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, written in normal sentences by your AI. Behind the scenes the helper sends back lists of matching messages, short thread summaries, counts, or the full text of one email. If you ask for an attachment, you get the image shown inline, the text pasted in, or a link to download the file. Nothing in your mailbox is changed.
Before you start
What you need
- Docker installed on your computer
- The email addresses and app passwords for each account you want to search (Gmail and iCloud need a special app password, not your normal one)
- A folder on your machine to keep the mail copy and the index, kept out of backups that leave the machine
Good to know
The helper keeps a full plaintext copy of your mail and your app passwords on the machine where you run it, so keep that folder private and out of backups that leave the machine.
Install it with your AI
Add Your Mail MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Your Mail MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
