Hipocampo MCP server

by carrasquelalex1

Give your AI a long-term memory so it remembers past work, mistakes and fixes across sessions.

Hipocampo is a memory helper for your AI. It lets your AI save notes, code facts and lessons from past sessions, then look them up later when they matter. It is handy if you use an AI assistant for coding or ongoing projects and you are tired of repeating yourself every time you start a new chat.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat about what is in the current conversation. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another system. Hipocampo is that helper, and it connects your AI to a memory database. When you ask your AI something, it can quietly check that memory, save new facts there, or pull up old lessons so it does not repeat past mistakes.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question or give it a task. The AI uses Hipocampo to search a memory database for anything related to what you are doing. Hipocampo looks through saved notes, code snippets and past errors, ranks the most useful ones, and hands them back. Your AI then uses those memories to answer you or to avoid a mistake it made before. It can also save new memories when you tell it something worth keeping.

What you can do with it

  • Save notes, code facts and lessons so your AI remembers them later
  • Search your saved memories by meaning, not just exact words
  • Index your project's source code so the AI can find real snippets
  • Link related memories together and walk through them like a map
  • Compress long memory blocks so they use fewer tokens in your chat
  • Tag memories with triggers so past errors resurface at the right moment
  • Archive old memories and restore them later if you need them

Try asking your AI

  • “Save this: our login page breaks if we change the session cookie name.”
  • “Search my memories for anything about the header.php regression.”
  • “Index the code in this project folder so you can search it later.”
  • “What did we learn last time we touched the payment module?”

What it gives back to you

You get back short lists of matching memories with the most relevant ones first, often with file paths or short snippets. Sometimes you get a compressed summary instead of the full text, so it fits neatly in the chat. When you save something, you get a short confirmation that it was stored. When you index code, you get a count of files that were added.

Before you start

What you need

  • A computer you can run things on (Linux or macOS, or Windows with WSL2)
  • PostgreSQL 17 with the pgvector add-on (the installer sets this up for you)
  • Python 3 and a bit of free disk space
  • Optionally, an embedding service like Ollama running locally, or an API key for an external one

Good to know

The free Hugging Face version loses all your memories when it restarts, so use it only for testing and run Hipocampo locally or with your own database for anything you want to keep.

Install it with your AI

Add Hipocampo MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Hipocampo MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
