SendGrid MCP server (secure)
by Choppaaahh
Lets your AI draft and send SendGrid emails safely, with previews, allowlists and an audit log.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to SendGrid, the service many companies use to send email. It is built for people who want their AI to help with emails but are nervous about it sending something wrong. If you send order confirmations, password resets or other one-off emails, this is for you.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program you add to your AI app that gives it a new skill. This helper gives your AI a connection to SendGrid, so it can look up your templates, check delivery stats, and prepare emails for you. You stay in control: nothing actually goes out until you say so.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to write an email, and it uses this helper to build the exact message. The helper shows you the finished email in the chat first, along with a one-time code. If you are happy with it, you tell the AI to send, and it passes that code back to the helper. The helper then hands the email to SendGrid, which delivers it. By default nothing is sent at all until you switch the helper into live mode.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Preview an email before anything is sent
- Send a transactional email through SendGrid
- Check delivery, open, click and bounce stats
- Look up your SendGrid templates
- Add or remove an address from your suppression list
- Check whether an address is suppressed
- Check that your sending domain is set up correctly
Try asking your AI
- “Draft a password reset email to jane@example.com using our Reset template and show it to me first”
- “How many emails did we send yesterday and how many bounced?”
- “Is bob@example.com on our suppression list?”
- “Show me our SendGrid templates”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers and lists in the chat: the full text of a drafted email, a table of stats, a list of templates, or a yes/no on whether an address is suppressed. When it sends, it tells you the outcome and records it in a log file on your computer. Nothing is hidden from you.
Before you start
What you need
- A SendGrid account and an API key (a kind of password for apps; SendGrid gives you one in your account settings)
- The uv tool installed, or Python 3 if you run it from a downloaded copy
- The Claude desktop app, Claude Code, or Cursor
Good to know
It can send real emails once you switch it to live mode, so keep it in dry-run until you trust it and use a SendGrid key with limited permissions.
