Zoom Search MCP server
by goofrey
Lets your AI search the web more deeply and give you answers with the sources it used.

Zoom Search is a helper for AI assistants that makes their web searching smarter. Instead of one quick search, it rewrites your question, gathers more sources, and then digs into the most useful websites. It is handy if you often ask your AI to research something and want the answer to come with real sources.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case the skill of searching the web more carefully. Once Zoom Search is connected, your AI can send your question to this helper, which searches, checks sources, and sends back a grounded answer. You just ask in normal words, and the helper does the searching behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a research question, like which tool fits your project. Your AI passes that question to Zoom Search. Zoom Search rewrites the question into a few better search phrases, looks across the web, then focuses on the most promising websites. It puts together an answer that lists the sources it used, plus some notes about how long it took and how much it cost in tokens. Your AI shows you that answer in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Ask a research question and get an answer with sources listed
- Get a broader set of useful websites than a single search would find
- See which domains the answer came from
- Get warnings if some sources looked weak or duplicated
- See simple numbers like how long the search took
- Try it in demo mode first, without any API keys
Try asking your AI
- “Which vector databases support hybrid search and metadata filtering for Python apps?”
- “What hotels in Shenzhen have rooms with exercise bikes?”
- “Compare two ways to prune hydrangeas and tell me which is better”
- “How do GitHub Actions secrets get inherited by reusable workflows?”
What it gives back to you
You get back a written answer plus a list of the sources it used, including the website domains. It also shows short notes about the search, like warnings and simple runtime numbers. In the chat, this usually looks like a paragraph answer followed by a bullet list of links.
Before you start
What you need
- Python installed on your computer
- An API key from a search service like Tavily (a kind of password for apps; the site gives you one when you sign up)
- An API key from an AI service like Gemini (also a password for apps, given to you when you sign up)
- An MCP client, such as the Claude desktop app
Good to know
It uses paid API keys for the AI and search services, so heavy use can cost money.
Install it with your AI
