rippr MCP server
by mrslbt
Pull the transcript of any YouTube video into your AI chat as clean text, timestamps, or a saved file.

rippr is a small helper that lets your AI grab the transcript of a YouTube video. You paste a video link, ask your AI to rip it, and the words spoken in the video come back as text you can read, search, or reuse. It is handy for anyone who watches talks, interviews, tutorials, or meetings on YouTube and wants the words without typing them out.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already knows. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill. This one gives your AI a connection to YouTube transcripts, so when you ask about a video, the helper fetches the spoken words and hands them to your AI. Your AI then works with that text like any other text you paste in.
What this MCP server does
You give your AI a YouTube link and ask it to rip the transcript. Your AI passes that link to rippr, which runs quietly on your own computer. rippr talks to YouTube, finds the captions for that video, and turns them into clean text. It saves the result as a file in a folder called rippr on your computer and tells your AI where the file is. Your AI can then read that file and answer your questions about the video.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Get the full transcript of a YouTube video as plain text
- Get a version with timestamps so you can jump to a moment
- Get a structured version with segments and video details
- Get a markdown version with headings for easier reading
- Save each transcript to a folder on your computer
- Ask your AI to summarize or search inside a video's transcript
- Reuse transcripts for notes, blog drafts, or study material
Try asking your AI
- “Rip this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abc123”
- “Get me the transcript of this talk with timestamps”
- “Summarize the main points from this YouTube interview”
- “Find the part of this video where they talk about pricing”
What it gives back to you
You get the transcript back as text in your chat, plus a note about where the file was saved. Depending on what you ask for, it can come as one continuous block of text, a version with timestamps, a markdown version with headings, or a structured file with segments and video details. Your AI can then quote it, summarize it, or answer questions about it.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js installed on your computer (the free program that runs this helper)
- A desktop AI app that can run local helpers, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code CLI, or Cursor
- A YouTube video that has captions or a transcript available
Good to know
It reads public YouTube transcripts, which may stop working if YouTube changes things, and you should follow YouTube's terms when you use the text.
Install it with your AI
Add rippr MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check rippr MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
