This is a small helper that gives your AI assistant the ability to search the web. It uses DuckDuckGo, so you get search results and the text of web pages without leaving your chat. It is handy for anyone who wants their AI to look things up online instead of guessing.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you using what it already learned. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to DuckDuckGo, the search engine. Once it is set up, your AI can search the web and read pages for you when you ask.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI a question that needs fresh information, like a news topic or a how-to. Your AI sends a search request to this helper. The helper asks DuckDuckGo and gets back a list of results with titles, links, and short descriptions. If you want more detail, your AI can ask the helper to open one of those pages and pull out the readable text. Then your AI uses that text to answer you in the chat.

What you can do with it

  • Search the web for current news, facts, or tutorials
  • Read the text of a webpage and summarize it for you
  • Look up something in a specific country or language
  • Fetch a long article and give you the main points
  • Find links and sources for a topic you are researching
  • Check what a website says without opening your browser

Try asking your AI

  • “Search the web for the latest news about electric cars”
  • “Find me a recipe for banana bread and read the top result”
  • “Look up what the weather is like in Tokyo right now”
  • “Search for beginner Python tutorials in Japanese”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat based on real web pages. For a search, your AI shows a list of titles, links, and short snippets. For a page fetch, it gives you the cleaned-up text, often summarized. You can also ask it to show the full link for a result if you want to click it yourself.

Before you start

What you need

  • The Claude desktop app or another AI tool that supports MCP servers
  • The uv tool installed on your computer (a free program that runs Python helpers)
  • No account or password needed for DuckDuckGo

Good to know

It can read any public webpage you point it at, so avoid fetching private or internal links unless you trust the setup.
