Opedd is a place where publishers put their articles up for licensing, and this MCP server lets your AI assistant work with that catalogue for you. You can search what is available, buy a licence for a single article, and check that a licence key is real. It is handy if you write reports, do research, or need to reuse other people's writing and want the paperwork to be in order.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an outside service. This one connects your AI to Opedd, the licensing marketplace. Once it is connected, your AI can look up articles and prices there, buy a licence for you, and pull back the text you are allowed to use.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like "find me articles about this topic and tell me what they cost". Your AI passes that request to this helper, which talks to the Opedd service. Opedd sends back matching articles with the publisher, the price, the word count and a short description. If you decide to buy, the helper can place the purchase and hand you back a licence key. Later, you can ask your AI to check that key and it will confirm what the licence covers.

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat, not files to download. Search results come back as a list with the publisher, price, word count and a short description. A purchase gives you a licence key like OP-XXXX-XXXX. If you have the right access set up, asking for an article returns its text plus details like the author, language and word count.

What you need

The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP servers
Node.js installed on your computer if you run it yourself (the hosted web address needs nothing installed)
An Opedd account and key from opedd.com for buying and retrieving content (searching and verifying work without one)
A saved card in Stripe if you want your AI to buy articles on its own
