ICDwise MCP server
by qinisolabs
Your AI can look up real ICD-10-CM medical codes and get the official description instead of a guess.

ICDwise is a small helper that lets your AI look up ICD-10-CM codes, the medical codes used in U.S. billing and records. It checks the official code set and gives you the real description, or tells you honestly that the code was not found. It is handy for anyone who works with diagnosis codes, like medical billers, coders, and clinic staff.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It does not have a live connection to a medical code list, so it sometimes makes up a description that sounds right but is wrong. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, and here that skill is looking up ICD-10-CM codes in the official U.S. code set. Once it is connected, you can ask your AI about a code and it will use this helper to fetch the real answer.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something like what does E11.9 mean. Your AI sends that code to the ICDwise helper. The helper checks the official ICD-10-CM code set and finds the matching entry. Your AI then shows you the official description in the chat. If the code is not real, the helper says so instead of inventing something.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Look up the official description of an ICD-10-CM code
- Check whether a code is a real, valid ICD-10-CM code
- Search for codes by typing a condition in plain words
- Get the standard form of a code and its three-character category
- Confirm a code you are unsure about before using it
- See which dataset version the answer came from
Try asking your AI
- “What does ICD-10-CM code E11.9 mean?”
- “Is H40.1131 a real ICD-10-CM code?”
- “Find ICD-10-CM codes for generalized anxiety disorder”
- “What is the official description for T63.011A?”
What it gives back to you
You get back the official description of the code, plus its standard form and its three-character category. For a search, you get a short list of matching codes with their descriptions. For a validation, you get a simple yes or no. If the code is not in the official set, you get a clear not found message instead of a made-up answer.
Before you start
What you need
- The Claude desktop app or another AI app that supports MCP connectors
- Nothing else if you use the hosted link, since it needs no login or key
- Node.js 18 or newer, only if you prefer to run it on your own computer
Good to know
This is not medical advice and does not tell you whether a code is billable or covered, so always confirm important coding decisions with your own official sources.
Install it with your AI
