Promethic MCP server
Your AI can save, version and improve your prompts, and switch models and settings for each one.

Promethic is an online library for your prompts. You keep each prompt there, save new versions as you change it, and note which AI model and settings worked best. This helper connects that library to your AI chat, so you can save and improve prompts without leaving the conversation.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Promethic, your prompt library online. Once it is connected, your AI can look up your saved prompts, save new versions, and suggest a refined version when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to save a prompt, find one you wrote before, or improve one. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to your Promethic library on the web and does the work there. Then it sends the answer back, so you see your prompt, its versions, or a suggested new version right in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Save a prompt to your library with a name and a version
- Find and open a prompt you saved earlier
- Create a new version of a prompt after you edit it
- Ask for a refined version of a prompt
- Keep track of which model and settings you used for each version
- Work with text, image and JSON prompts
- See which versions you copied or downloaded
Try asking your AI
- “Save this prompt to Promethic as a new version called 'weekly report v3'”
- “Find my prompt about customer emails and show me the latest version”
- “Suggest a refined version of my image prompt for product photos”
- “Which model and settings did I use for the prompt I saved last week?”
What it gives back to you
You get your prompts back as text in the chat, with their names and version numbers. When you ask for a refined version, you get a suggested new prompt you can save or edit. You can also see which model and settings were attached to a version. Saving or updating a prompt changes your library, and the chat tells you it was done.
Before you start
What you need
- A Promethic account (free to start at app.getpromethic.com)
- A Promethic developer key that starts with pmk_ (you get it from your Promethic account; it works like a password for apps)
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude on the web or iOS, or Codex CLI
Good to know
Saving or updating a prompt changes your Promethic library, so check the version name before you confirm.
Install it with your AI
Add Promethic MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Promethic MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who write prompts often and want to keep them organised, versioned and easy to improve, such as writers, marketers, designers and developers.
