This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to Notion. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find a page, read it, or add something new, and it will do that inside your own Notion workspace. It is handy if you live in Notion all day and want to stop switching back and forth.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a little helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to Notion. You add it once to your AI app, and from then on the AI can look things up in Notion or make changes there when you ask. This particular helper is the Notion one, so the new skill is working with your Notion pages and databases.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about Notion, like finding a page or adding a note. The AI passes your request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper talks to Notion using a special access key you gave it. Notion sends back the page, the list, or the result, and the helper hands it to the AI. The AI then shows you the answer or tells you what it changed.

What you can do with it

  • Search your Notion workspace for pages and databases
  • Read a page and show you its content
  • Look at a database's columns and structure
  • Query a database and list matching items
  • Create new pages or database entries
  • Add paragraphs, headings, lists, and to-dos to a page
  • Update existing blocks or append Markdown text

Try asking your AI

  • “Find my page called Q3 planning in Notion”
  • “Read the meeting notes page from last week and summarize it”
  • “Add a to-do item called send invoice to my Tasks database”
  • “Show me all items in my Projects database where status is In progress”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat: page text, lists of items, or a short summary of what the AI found. When it makes a change, it tells you what it added or updated. You can also see the exact block IDs if you want to edit something specific later.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Notion account
  • A Notion integration token (Notion's site gives you one for free when you create an integration)
  • Access shared with that integration for the pages or databases you want it to use
  • An MCP host app like Claude Desktop or Cursor

Good to know

This helper can change or delete things in Notion, so only share the pages you are comfortable letting the AI edit, and check what it did before trusting it on important work.

Install it with your AI

Add Notion MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Notion MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
