Unmarkdown MCP server
by UnMarkdown
Turn Markdown text into nicely formatted documents for Google Docs, Word, Slack, and more.

This is a small helper that lets your AI assistant turn plain Markdown text into neatly formatted documents. You paste in your notes, and it hands back something that looks good in Google Docs, Word, Slack, OneNote, email, or plain text. It is handy for anyone who writes in Markdown but needs to share the result with people who use regular office tools.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Unmarkdown, a service that formats Markdown into styled documents. So when you ask your AI to format something, it quietly uses this helper to talk to Unmarkdown and brings the result back to you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI to convert some Markdown, and it sends that text to the Unmarkdown service through this helper. Unmarkdown applies a template you choose and returns styled HTML, which is the kind of text that pastes nicely into Google Docs, Word, Slack, and other tools. You can also ask your AI to save documents in your Unmarkdown library, put them in folders, or publish them as a public web page. If you want, you can check how many conversions you have left for the month.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Convert Markdown into formatted text for Google Docs, Word, Slack, OneNote, email, or plain text
- Pick from 62 visual templates, with light and dark themes
- Save new documents in your Unmarkdown library, sorted into folders
- Find, read, and update documents you saved earlier
- Publish a document to a public web link you can share
- Check how many API calls you have used this month
Try asking your AI
- “Convert these meeting notes for Google Docs using the Executive template”
- “Turn this project update into Slack formatting so it looks good in our channel”
- “Create a document called Q1 Report in my Reports folder and publish it”
- “How many API calls have I used this month?”
What it gives back to you
You get back formatted text you can copy and paste straight into your document or chat. When you save or publish something, you get a confirmation and a link to the document. When you ask about usage, you get a simple number and your monthly limit. Everything shows up right in the chat, so you never have to leave the conversation.
Before you start
What you need
- An Unmarkdown account (free plan works, with 1,000 API calls per month)
- An Unmarkdown API key, which you get from Settings > API in your account
- A tool that supports MCP, like Claude Desktop, Cursor, or VS Code
Good to know
Your Markdown and document content are sent to the Unmarkdown service for processing, and anything you publish becomes a public web link, so avoid pasting private or confidential material you would not want shared.
