Hindsight MCP server

by vectorize-io

Give your AI a long-term memory so it remembers facts and past chats and answers with that context.

Hindsight is a memory system for AI assistants. It lets your AI keep notes about people, projects and past conversations, then bring those notes back when you ask something later. It is handy if you use ChatGPT or Claude for ongoing work and are tired of repeating yourself every time.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with what is in front of it right now. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Hindsight, a memory service, so it can save things you tell it and look them up again later. You just ask in normal words, and the AI uses this helper behind the scenes.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI something worth remembering, like a fact about a client or a decision from last week. The AI passes that to Hindsight through this helper, and Hindsight files it away in a memory bank. Later, when you ask a question, the AI asks Hindsight what it knows about that topic. Hindsight sends back the relevant notes, and the AI uses them to answer you. It can also put several memories together and give you a short summary or opinion based on them.

What you can do with it

  • Save facts and notes so your AI remembers them next time
  • Ask your AI what it knows about a person, project or topic
  • Get a short summary built from many past memories
  • Keep separate memory banks for different clients or projects
  • Look up earlier conversations and decisions
  • Let your AI build up an understanding of a topic over time

What it gives back to you

You get answers in plain text in your chat. Sometimes it is a short list of remembered facts, sometimes a summary the AI wrote from those facts. If you asked it to save something, it simply confirms it stored it. You do not see any technical output, just normal sentences.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Hindsight server running, either on your own computer or the hosted Hindsight Cloud
  • An account or API key for Hindsight Cloud if you use the hosted version
  • An API key for an AI model provider if you run the server yourself
  • An MCP client like the Claude desktop app pointed at your Hindsight address

Good to know

Anything you save goes into the memory bank and stays there, so avoid storing passwords, private client data or anything you would not want the AI to bring up later.

Install it with your AI

Add Hindsight MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Hindsight MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
