JMAP Email MCP server
by wyattjoh
Let your AI search, read, sort, send and reply to email on a JMAP mail server for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to an email account that speaks a modern mail standard called JMAP. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI in plain words to find messages, tidy your inbox, or draft a reply, and it does the clicking for you. It is handy if your mail provider supports JMAP, for example FastMail or a self-hosted server like Stalwart or Cyrus.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you; it cannot see your inbox. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI one new skill, in this case a connection to your JMAP email account. When you ask something like "any unread mail from my boss?", your AI passes that request to this helper, the helper talks to your mail server, and the answer comes back into the chat. You never touch the helper directly; you just talk to your AI as usual.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI a question about your email in normal words. The AI turns that into a request and hands it to this helper. The helper logs in to your JMAP mail server, looks up the mailboxes, searches or reads the messages you asked about, and sends the result back. If you asked it to change something, like marking a message as read or moving it to a folder, the helper makes that change on the server. Then your AI shows you the answer or confirms what it did.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search your email by sender, subject, date range, or keywords
- Read the full text of specific messages and whole conversation threads
- List your folders and find the ID of each one
- Mark messages as read or unread, and flagged or unflagged
- Move messages to another folder, or add and remove folder labels
- Send a new email or reply to one, including reply-all
- Delete messages permanently
- Check what is new since the last time you looked
Try asking your AI
- “Show me any unread emails from this week”
- “Find messages from Anna about the budget and summarise them”
- “Move all newsletters from today into my Archive folder”
- “Draft a short reply to the latest message from the support team”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat: lists of matching emails with sender, subject and a short preview, or the full text of a message you asked to read. When it changes something, like marking mail as read or moving it, it tells you what it did. Search results come back as message IDs first, and the AI fetches the details for the ones you care about.
Before you start
What you need
- A JMAP email account (for example FastMail, Stalwart, or Cyrus IMAP)
- The session URL of your mail server (usually ends with /.well-known/jmap)
- A bearer token from your mail provider (a kind of password for apps)
- Deno version 2 or newer installed on your computer
Good to know
It can send, move, and permanently delete real emails, so check with your AI before letting it delete anything or send a message on your behalf.
Install it with your AI
Add JMAP Email MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check JMAP Email MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
People who use a JMAP email provider and want their AI assistant to help sort, search, and answer mail without leaving the chat.
