Pylos MCP server
by adamVass
Let your AI search, read and draft your email safely, with every message treated as untrusted.
Pylos is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your email inbox. It works with Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft 365, iCloud and most other mail providers. It is handy for anyone who wants help sorting, reading or drafting email without handing their assistant a blank cheque.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. Pylos is that helper for your email, so your AI can look through your mailbox and write drafts for you when you ask. It runs on your own computer and talks to your mail provider on your behalf.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your email, like to find a message or summarise a thread. The AI uses Pylos to search and read your mailbox. Pylos fetches the messages, strips out hidden tricks and marks anything suspicious before passing them on. The AI then answers you in the chat, or writes a draft for you to review. Sending, moving and deleting stay switched off unless you turn them on yourself.
What you can do with it
- Search your mailbox by sender, subject, date or keyword
- Read a single email or a whole conversation thread
- List your mail folders
- Write a draft reply for you to check and send yourself
- Save an attachment to your Downloads folder
- Mark messages as read, unread or flagged (if you turn this on)
- Move messages between folders (if you turn this on)
Try asking your AI
- “Find any emails from my landlord in the last month”
- “Summarise this thread about the holiday booking”
- “Draft a polite reply saying I will send the report on Friday”
- “Show me my unread messages from this week”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain chat: lists of matching emails, short summaries of a message or thread, or a draft sitting in your Drafts folder. Each message comes with a Warnings line if something looks off, such as hidden text or wording aimed at an AI. Attachments you ask for are saved as files in your Downloads folder.
Before you start
What you need
- Node.js 22 or later on your computer
- An email account with Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, GMX, Fastmail, mailbox.org or Posteo
- An app password from your mail provider (a special password just for apps; your provider's settings page gives you one)
- An MCP client such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code
Good to know
Your inbox is private and anyone can write to it, so treat what your assistant tells you about your mail with care, and keep tools that reach the internet out of the same conversation.
Install it with your AI
Add Pylos MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Pylos MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who spends a lot of time in email and wants an AI assistant to help read, search and draft, without giving it the keys to send or delete.
