Notion MCP server
by awkoy
Let your AI read and write in Notion: create pages, query databases, add comments and upload files.

This is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to your Notion workspace. Once it is set up, you can just ask your AI in plain words to make a page, look something up in a database, or leave a comment, and it will do it for you. It is handy if you already use Notion every day and want to stop clicking around for small tasks.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your Notion pages or change anything there. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to Notion. You install this helper once, give it your Notion token, and from then on your AI can look things up in Notion and make changes when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something in normal words, like finding overdue tasks or creating a page. Your AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to Notion using your token, does the work, and sends a short, tidy answer back. Your AI then shows you the result in the chat, for example a list of rows or a link to the new page. It works with Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other apps that support MCP.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Create new Notion pages, with or without a template
- Search your workspace and read page content
- Query a database and get clean rows back
- Add or edit blocks on a page, including markdown
- Leave a comment on a page
- Upload a file or image to a page
- Rename or update many pages in one go
Try asking your AI
- “Find every row in my Tasks database where Status is Doing and tell me which are overdue”
- “Create a page called Weekly review from my template and fill in this summary”
- “Comment on yesterday's meeting notes with a one-paragraph summary”
- “Upload this diagram to the design page”
What it gives back to you
You get back short, readable answers in the chat: lists of rows, page titles, links, or a short summary of what changed. It does not dump raw Notion data on you, so the replies stay easy to read. If it created or changed something, it tells you what it did. You can also ask for the full raw details if you ever need them.
Before you start
What you need
- A Notion account
- A Notion token (a kind of password for apps; you create one for free on Notion's developer page)
- Node.js installed if you use the npx command, or the Claude Desktop app if you use the one-click file
Good to know
It can create, change and delete things in your Notion workspace, so check what your AI is about to do before saying yes.
Install it with your AI
Add Notion MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Notion MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Anyone who lives in Notion and wants their AI assistant to handle small Notion tasks for them, like project managers, writers, and team leads.
