NOUZ MCP server for Obsidian
by KVANTRA-dev
Let your AI sort, link and search your Obsidian notes by meaning, not just keywords.

NOUZ is a helper that sits between your notes and your AI. It reads your Markdown files, works out what each note is about, and builds a map of how they relate. It is handy if you keep a big Obsidian or Logseq vault and want your AI to actually understand it.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to your notes folder, so it can read your files, suggest labels, and find related notes for you. You just ask in plain words, and the helper does the work in the background.
What this MCP server does
You point NOUZ at your notes folder and describe a few broad topics, called cores. When you add a new note, the helper reads its text and compares it to those topics using a small local model. It then suggests a label, a level, and possible links to other notes. It can also spot when a note's meaning has slowly drifted away from the label you gave it. Everything runs on your own machine.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Suggest a topic label and level for a new note
- Find related notes across different topics
- Write a note with the suggested labels already added
- Update only the labels of a note without touching the text
- List notes filtered by level or label
- Walk up or down your note hierarchy
- Re-scan your whole vault to refresh the map
Try asking your AI
- “Suggest metadata for my new note about feedback loops in teams”
- “Find notes in my vault that are close in meaning to this one”
- “List all notes marked as a log”
- “Which of my notes look like their topic has drifted”
What it gives back to you
You get back short answers in the chat: a suggested label, a level, and a list of related notes. Sometimes it returns a warning that a note's meaning no longer matches its label. If you ask it to write or update a note, it tells you what it changed. It also gives plain lists when you ask for notes by level or topic.
